Extending the Life of Coiled Tubing Assets by Ron Townsend, Automated Completions Technologies

Abstract
As the oil and gas industry continues to evolve, so must all services and service companies follow the evolution process. Those companies who refuse to evolve will soon see their assets cast aside by the operating companies, soon to be sold at auction for pennies on the dollar, or just simply left to deteriorate.

The best example that we have is in the drilling services sector, where we have seen extreme technological advancement in the past 10 years. However, those or similar technological improvements have not been made in the workover and completions space.

Automated Completions Technology, who is focused on advancing the workover and completions space through technology, has the solution. The patent pending Jointed Pipe Injector (JPI) was developed and being tested to pull, push, and continuously move conventional jointed tubing in and out of conventional, extended reach lateral and, or pressurized wells. The JPI has been designed with retractable gripper segments that never loose grip above and below interconnecting couplings but do not grip on interconnecting couplings. The advantages of a continuously moving, never loosing grip, safe and high-speed injector similar to a coil tubing injector however with the extended reach, transportability, and cost of jointed pipe.

We will show how the retractable gripper block system works, how the technical and safety risks of an overall snubbing system are overcome and how completing extended reach wells can be done quickly, safely and efficiently, by simply retrofitting your present-day coil tubing spread to use API tubing.

Speaker Bio
Ron currently holds the position of President of Automated Completions Technologies, where he is focused on introducing our new technologies to the Canadian, USA, and International oil energy markets. In his 38 years of industry experience Ron served in various management positions throughout North, Central, and South America mainly focused on drilling and completions, as well as rig fabrication, project management, and solutions theory.
