2018 ICoTA Europe Innovation Award Winner Announced

The winner of the ICoTA Europe Innovation Award 2018 was recently announced at the organisation’s annual conference in Aberdeen which is jointly organised with the Society of Petroleum Engineers Aberdeen section.

The award is presented annually by the Intervention & Coiled Tubing Association (ICoTA) European Chapter to a service company or Operator for the application of technological innovation in the area of well intervention. Previous winners of the award include Well-SENSE for its FiberLine Intervention technology; Shell, Helix Well Ops and Altus Intervention for the collective group’s collaboration on an innovative system designed to increase oil production; and E Plug for the TorcPlug technology.

This year’s winner is Ocean Team Scandinavia A/S for its ground-breaking SCC02 technology. Providing a solution to something which was previously impossible, the innovative technology allows for emptying oil, back-flushing and clearing a blockage in a closed loop TRSSSV hydraulic control line.

Andrew Patterson, a member of the ICoTA European Chapter, headed up the committee in the search for the innovative technologies which were submitted for this prestigious award.

“The quality of entries we received this year was outstanding. Each year the technologies we see are more innovative and continue to cover even more elements of well intervention. From the large scale collaborative efforts of multiple companies to maximise production, to the more niche yet vital technologies that ensure well intervention operations are conducted safely, reliably and efficiently, we see it all. We were delighted to announce our 2018 finalists as BiSN, Interventek and Ocean Team Scandinavia and the competition was very close between these three outstanding companies. Each finalist presented an innovative solution to a specific issue in the well intervention cycle and it was fantastic to celebrate this variety. We congratulate our winner, Ocean Team Scandinavia A/S who won with their application of Super Critical CO2 technology for the cleaning of long narrow hydraulic control lines & change of oil and back-flush one-way lines.”

Espen Kähler Amundsen, now Managing Director of Ocean Team Fluidcare UK Ltd, presented the technology to the judging committee and said:

“This is a great honour and we are very humble to get this award, especially with the competition of BiSN & Interventek’s very innovative technologies. We can already feel the response from potential customers, and this award will most definitely open up many new possibilities for us, as the technology also does this for our customers. I would like to thank our biggest customer in the UK, that wanted us to try and get this award after we completed a project for them with this new technology. They have opened many new doors for us, again thanks to them, and to all that have been involved from Ocean Team Group of Companies.

“We are looking forward to implementing this technology with all that would have a need for this new technology with the new possibilities with flushing, back flushing or unblocking of Control-Lines, Long Umbilicals, long narrow pipes, or changing oil in one-way lines.”

The ICoTA Innovation Award 2019 will open for entries in June 2019 and the winner will be announced at the 25th SPE ICoTA Well Intervention Conference in November 2019.
