Students visit ICoTA annual conference in Houston

For the first time in the long history of the ICoTA annual conference in Houston, the US Chapter suggested inviting high school students from the Energy Institute High School in Houston to visit the exhibit floor.

Student-Visit

SPE was in full agreement and their efforts ensured a smooth and seamless visit. The students were split into groups of four and were chaperoned by volunteers from ICoTA. Most students were impressed and surprised by the large scale of our industry and of course had many questions about bending steel coiled tubing and how that was achieved.

To their eternal credit, all of the exhibitors approached by SPE to permit a visit were fully on board with the concept of introducing our industry to its potential future cadre of engineers of various types. Two exhibitor personnel in particular took extra time to answer questions about how they found and began their career in the Oil & Gas business.

The students were surprised to hear of the high level of enthusiasm from these fairly young professionals who enjoy both the excitement of a high level data driven future and the contrast of the hands on field work.

Kudos to Chris Torsi and Alyssa Moreno at SPE for maximizing this opportunity and to Rod Shampine (ICoTA Member) for his valiant efforts at the Energy Institute High School.
