Technical
This section is designed to describe the various well intervention methods available and commonly used within the industry. The list is not exhaustive but concentrates on the key activities that may be performed 'rigless' or with minimal rig assistance.
History
An extensive look at the origins and history of coiled tubing. Prior to the Allied invasion in 1944, British engineers developed and produced very long, continuous pipelines for transporting fuel from England to the European Continent to supply the Allied armies.

Coiled tubing (CT) is typically continuous steel pipe ranging in diameter from 1” OD to 3.5” OD. It is used to perform drilling, completion and intervention functions, though the majority of the CT service are well interventions.

Hydraulic Workover or Snubbing as it is sometimes referred to is a well intervention method which has been in existence for many years pioneered largely in the US on land but gained popularity in the North Sea during the late 80's early 90's.

Wireline is the generic name relating to a well intervention method for conveying tools to and from the well bore.

SubSea Well Intervention is a specialised intervention area although the principles of operation are identical to a platform or onshore based intervention service.

The early 1990s saw the introduction and growth of highly deviated and horizontal wells in many oil & gas fields across the globe, required by offshore (particularly subsea) completion design and/or the desire to provide maximum reservoir contact for optimised reservoir drainage.
Read more ⟶Well Integrity - an overview
Well Integrity is concerned with constructing a well with a system of physical barriers to prevent the unplanned movement a fluids within a well and preventing unplanned release into the environment.
